Between 2014 and 2017, Wa Wa Project, a social platform dedicated to supporting the communities affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, hosted the 3.11 Film Festival every year in March, featuring movies related to the earthquake. Spread produced designs for the main artwork and promotional materials as well as providing art direction for this event. The design concept focused on the recollection of fading memories of the tragic event and taking a close look at the ongoing effort made by victims as they hope for recovery, thereby bringing new insights and perspectives to a bright future. In addition to its main showing at the 3331 Arts Chiyoda, the festival was made into a nationwide campaign by encompassing a series of related events held at Tsutaya, DVD rental stores, and other venues throughout the country. The logo was designed with a blue curved motif, symbolizing the earthquake and tsunami, along with a silver square diagram, representing the screen at a movie theater. Drawing upon this visual identity, we developed a unique main artwork each year after modifying the layout to be suitable for the tagline of the year, yet keeping the overall concept. We produced a wide range of assets, from posters, flyers and tickets to signs used at the venue.
